Archive: October 2017

Well, I would say I'm a little late with it being the last day of October and everything. But, here is my October mood board! With the weather getting chillier, I find myself starting to layer more. I absolutely adore layering, especially slip dresses. Slip dresses are so cute and fun to layer! They're also so versatile. You can dress them up, accompanied by your fave heels, or dress them down and instead of heels throw on a pair of boots. The choices are endless! I definitely suggest adding a slip dress to your wardrobe if you've not already.

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful Halloween tonight! Eat a lot of candy for me.
October

So, this look is a little out of my comfort zone. It's very 1980s, and I'm usually a 1930s - 1960s kind of girl. But, I've been absolutely in love with the blazer trend happening this fall so I had to try it out for myself! If you would like to shop this look scroll all the way to the bottom of this post.

Lately I've been a little confused about what my own personal style is, or "niche" if you will. When I started this blog I planned on focusing on just vintage style but lately I've been drawn to a whole bunch of different trends and styles.  So, I'm a little confused as to what style I should focus on. I just feel like when you're a blogger you usually are drawn to one specific "style" whether that be boho, grunge, minimalist, etc. But, I'm drawn to all of these styles and more, so it's just confusing? I don't know, I'm probably just overthinking it, as per usual. I should just blog about what I like whether that be hippie style one day, or grunge the next. So, basically what I'm saying is expect to see a whole bunch of different styles and looks soon! And don't be afraid to experiment with other looks you are interested in even if they are out of your comfort zone. Don't limit yourself! Just do you boo.

So, about 95% of my wishlist this week is from Unique Vintage. But, I have no regrets because that store is the cutest. Like, just look at this coat. This whole outfit reminded me of the Tower of Terror in Disney World, that's what drew me to it.

If you would like to shop my wishlist scroll all the way down to the end of this post and a link to each item is down there!
These shoes though. The colors are absolutely precious. They remind me of cotton candy!
I need this 1930s inspired dress! It is so, so gorgeous.
Ok, these shoes are a work of art. They would be perfect for Halloween!
Oh, these pants. They are gorgeous and are great for lounging around in or going out!
This banana printed shirt is so 1930s, I love it!
This dress is honestly my favorite, and I wish I could afford it. Hopefully soon I'll be able to afford a little splurge because this dress is absolutely gorgeous!

I've been looking around for a cute blazer, and I loved this one! It is from H&M. I actually found one today, though. It's from Forever 21 and looks very similar to this one.

How precious is this dress! It would make a great Wednesday Addams' costume.

I am loving my new pants from target! They give off such a 1930s male trousers vibe to me and I love it. It was also so fun styling an outfit around them, too. This is now my go to fall outfit! The hat is from H&M, and the top is from Kohls, but here is a similar one.

This shoot was a win for me because I felt really awkward and slightly anxious about shooting out in front of my house. I felt like my neighbors would think I'm vain since I'm, ya know, standing outside all dressed up with a tripod and camera taking photos of myself. I persisted anyway, and barely anyone passed by my house which was a comfort to me. A neighbor was working in his yard the whole time, though, but I still stayed outside! He also didn't boo and throw rocks at me so I mean that was a plus. So basically Dominique: 1 Social Anxiety: 0.

When I was a little kid, I had this dream. I would pace up and down the hallway where the door to our playroom was five times. And on the fifth try, I opened the door to our playroom, and instead of our modest and slightly messy playroom, what laid behind that door was a shimmering new playroom. I don't remember exactly what it looked like because I was maybe 4 when I had this dream, but what I do remember is everything somehow shimmered, and was the nicest, softest pink. and there was a lovely window seat right under the window. The next morning I woke up, determined to make this dream come true. I paced up and down the hallway 5 times, opened the door to our playroom with hopeful expectation, and nothing changed. I tried this several times until finally I gave up, disappointed and slightly sad.

The beauty of this story is how with all of my heart I believed I would be able to change my playroom with just wishful thinking and simply pacing up and down the hallway. As I grew up,  a spirit of cynicism took over my mind, and I barely can remember the last time I believed in something as ludicrous and wholeheartedly as that without any hint of doubt. Now, my mind is filled with doubts, especially when it comes to God and his promises to me. No matter how many times he tells me something, a small part of me still doubts. Why is that? This is why we are called as Christians to have a childlike faith. Because children are so innocent. They believe in things wholeheartedly, passionately, and without any hint of doubt. No matter how far fetched or impossible it may be. When is the last time you believed in something like that? Whether it be something God is trying to tell you, or in God Himself. I know for me, it's very difficult to believe and trust that strongly without any hint of doubt. Maybe it is for you, too. All I know is that God is faithful, He is truth, and He never changes. Everything He says and does yesterday, He will say and do today. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He doesn't change. So that means His word and His promises don't change. He has been teaching me that day by day lately, and is working on removing the roots of cynicism that have grown inside of me over the years. What is the Lord trying to reveal to you that you are having trouble believing? Please don't be like me and let doubt drown out the soft whispers of truth God is speaking to you. Choose to listen to him, you won't regret it.
This outfit is honestly one of my favorite outfits. It is just so 1930s and I love it so much. I actually got everything I am wearing besides my shoes for my birthday this past August. I was looking for a fluted 30s style skirt for so long, and I was so excited when I got this! Here is a similar skirt but in black. This shirt is also from etsy and its handmade and absolutely gorgeous. My cap is actually antique from the 1910s-1920s. This is probably the oldest thing I own and it's crazy to me that I own something almost 100 years old and its still wearable. And lastly, my shoes I got at a thrift shop, but here is a similar pair!
I had to clean out all of my jewelry boxes last week, because I got a brand new jewelry armoire to put my collection in instead! I was excited because I had about four jewelry boxes clogging up my dresser, and now I only have 2 so it definitely cleaned up the top of my dresser a bit! As I emptied out the boxes and organized the pieces, I realized this would be a great time to show you my collection. Ninety five percent of my pieces were found in thrift stores, and flea markets.
I actually got the armoire at one of my favorite flea markets for only thirty dollars. It is beautiful and in wonderful condition, so it was definitely worth it.
As you probably already can see, I have a brooch addiction. They are just so classy and can give any outfit a lovely vintage feel!
Here are some of my very lovely brooches in their brand new home!
I got this beautiful mermaid necklace during one of my many beach trips last summer!
